A system of pipes used to carry rain, waste water and industrial waste for disposal is called sewerage system or waste water system. There are three types of sewerage systems.
- Combined sewerage system is single pipe system which carries both wastewater and surface water.
- Separate sewerage system is a system of separate sewers and drains that are used to carry foul water and surface water. This system is used to dispose waste water from kitchen, bathrooms, toilets etc.
- Partially separate sewerage system is a system of foul sewers and drains that are used to carry surface water and rainwater from roofs, paved areas, pavements and roads. Surface water sewers usually flow into streams, rivers.
While designing new sewerage systems, separate foul and surface water systems should be designed. It is always wrong discharge foul sewage to a sewer designed for surface water.

If you choose to lay cement concrete floor in your home, there are two methods to lay cement concrete flooring; the first is laying concrete floor with strips and the second is laying concrete floor without strips. Here are some useful tips on how to lay cement concrete flooring with strips.
- Lay base coat of 100 mm thick in the ratio of cement concrete 1:8:16 (1 part of cement, 8 parts of fine sand and16 parts of brick blast) or 1:4:8 on compacted earth under the floor.
- Divide floor area in suitable panels with the help of strips. The depth of strips should be equal to the thickness of floor.
- Keep the length of panels not more than 2 meters and the area should not be more than 2 square meters. The panels should be uniform in size.
- Place cement concrete in the panels and level it with the help of straight edge.
- Float the toping with wooden float to render even and compacted surface.
- Lay cement slurry/floating coat on compacted surface. The top surface then is finished with wooden float.
- Test evenness of the surface with straight edge and make it true to required slopes.
- Take care to see whether the strips are damaged by laborers while lying concrete. Keep the tops of strips visible clearly after finishing with cement slurry.
- Do curing at least for 10 days.
